Audrey Ann Speer was born on July 22, 1929 to Meryl and Lillie Speer. She was the third of five daughters born to the couple, and she was born on her daddy’s birthday. She was raised in rural Dickinson County around Abilene. Following graduation from Chapman High School, she went to California to attend college.
While there, she met Jim Robertson. They were married on April 1, 1956. Since Jim was in the Air Force, they lived in many places including Guam. Upon his retirement, Colorado became their home. They divorced in 1977. She later married Guy Kessler. While Denver was their home, they had a house at Grand Lake for a while, built “the barn” at Granby, and also went to Black Canyon City, AZ, for the winter. Even after Guy’s death in 1995, Audrey spent most of the summer months at the barn, which became a favorite vacation spot for many of her family. Around 2010, she moved to Buhler, KS. She was a member of Union Valley Bible Church and also attended Young at Heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Muriel Miller and Elaine Robson.
She is survived by two sisters, Maurine Georgiades, of Altadena, CA and Sharon Grove, of St. John, KS, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Audrey’s life will take place at Union Valley Bible Church, Hutchinson, KS at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 19, 2021.
