Arlen Dale Whitford, 84, died on April 25, 2018 in Hutchinson, KS. He was born on October 2, 1933 to James and Gladys (Coats) Whitford in Claremore, Oklahoma.
Arlen served in the United States Army and Merchant Marines. After serving as a Merchant Marine, he married Mary Whitford.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Sierra Club, The American Legion, National Maritime Union and Golden Glove Boxing. Arlen enjoyed photography, books, music and foreign cuisine. He had the experience of climbing Mt. Fuji , went on a photographic safari in Kenya, Africa and tried snake charming cobras in Thailand.
Preceding him in death are his parents and his wife, Mary; three sisters, Wanda Hager, Mary Dearth, and Martha Mosby; and one son, Terry Whitford.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene (Rick) Smith; grandson, Derrick Smith; and two great granddaughters, Kayla Smith and Kaitlynn Kling.
There will be a graveside service held at a later date.
