Ernest “Jake” C. Tennant, 88, died on October 1, 2018 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born on October 4, 1929 in Hominy, OK the son of Jacob E. and Charity A. (Smith) Tennant.
Ernie graduated from Burrton High School in 1947.
On Aug 15th, 1948 he married Bonnie Sessions in Burrton. She died on June 16, 2003.
Ernie worked as a crane operator from the age of 20, for N. F. English Construction Company. In 1951 they sold the business
and it became Ewing Construction. In 1987, Ernie purchased the company and was the owner and operator until he retired in 2001.
He held a membership with the Moose Lodge of Hutchinson. Ernie was a novice train collector, and active in the woodworking at DeLos V. Smith Senior Center of Hutchinson.
Preceding Ernie in death are his parents and his spouse; a son, Jacob Brian Tennant; four sisters, Hazel, Floread, Jerry and Beulah; son-in-law, Jim Holzrichter.
Survivors include his three daughters, Patricia (Larry) Lillard, Linda (Mel) Bass, Jane Holzrichter; companion, Fern Manwarren; daughter-in-law, Lisa Tennant; grandchildren, Brandy Kent, Lindsay (Steve) Carpenter, Dustin Lillard, Kelli (Scott) Zehr, Heath (Jaclyn) Holzrichter and Mattison Lloyd; great grandchildren, Hagen, Haddie, Cooper, Lexi, Ella, Sydney, Henry, Kinley, Cody and Amelia; three step-grandchildren, Jacob, Hailey and Summer.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 4th, 2018 from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Graveside Services will be on Friday, Oct. 5th, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Burrton City Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Burrton High School Athletic Department or the Hospice House of Reno County, in care of the funeral home at 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67502
